Celebrating European Entrepreneurship in Belgium

Time is running so fast… It’s already been a week since we were at the Plugg’09 conference in Brussels.

It was a really strong event with some super presentations and learning opportunities. Especially the panel discussion between Fred Destin (Atlas Venture), Anil Hansjee (Google) and Sake Bosch (Prime Technology Ventures) where Fred gave some tough love and claimed that the lack of globally successful startups in Europe is a mindset issue vs. limited funding availability, and advised the crowd to “think BIG” about the total market opportunity.  You can browse the event’s Pictures and Videos to see how busy we were and check out that panel!

But first, let’s give big kudos to the Startup Rally winners: Mendeley, the jury’s choice, a socio-academic site for sharing research papers and Myngle, the audience’s choice (also our favorite), a smart platform for online language education. Check their presentations, as well as other nominees’ (including ours).

Although we did not make it to the final this time around, Silentale was noticed and noted quite a few times, including from the inspirational media strategist Inma Martinez as well as the always entertaining editor from TechCrunch UK Mike Butcher. Thank you guys for showing us we are on the right path.

Also, as mentioned in our previous post, Silentale participated in the TechCrunch Talk «What’s next for France 2.0» in Paris on February 25th, and the footage is now available.

Silentale sparks more and more interest among the industry

Plugg09Over the past several weeks we’ve been pretty quiet because we’ve been hard at work preparing the arrival of Silentale’s Beta. We are almost there, and the most exciting part is that the interest in our service is clearly spreading.

We are thrilled to announce that Silentale was just selected from a pool of 126 European startups to be one of the 20 nominees for the Plugg’09 Start-Ups Rally that will happen in Brussels on March 12th, 2009. We will have 2 minutes to pitch Silentale to the audience and to a professional jury who will then select 3 finalists to give a 10 minute presentation. Two awards will be given out: one for the overall winner and one for the startup that got the most votes from the audience.

In the meantime, we are seeing an increase in media coverage:

Laurent Féral-Pierssens, Silentale CEO was invited to be one of the panelists of TechCrunch Talk «What’s next for France 2.0» in Paris on February 25th. The event was hosted by Mike Butcher of TC UK. Check the photostream by @feuillu.

Silentale also hit the frontpage of l’Expansion.com, a French leading business newspaper. L’Expansion presents our service as “the response to the current outbreak of communication means” and see a very promising future for us with the “hyper-connected” segment expected to reach 40% of the active population within four years (IDC).

So, stay tuned, subscribe to our RSS feed and, if you haven’t already, register on silentale.com to get on the invitation list.

And don’t forget, the best is yet to come.
